The Claw-machine Chapter

So I did this 4-day claw machine job and thought how funny life is. We, the employees who placed lucky draw prizes in the claw machine, literally had total control over the customers' luck. Not that we care who gets it, but if friends came, we totally could have helped them get the prize they wanted. But of course that's expected. People do that all the time.

I actually thought about how similar it is to life.

On the first day we placed so many good prizes in the machine. The odds of getting a good prize was more than 50 percent. But at dinner time Management decided we had given out too many good prizes so we had to stop the machines just to take out all the remaining ones. (It was such a hassle lol.) There was literally 0% chance of winning. Yet people were still quite happy when they got a cash voucher, even though it meant they'd have to spend more money. And that's like life, when people in power can change your fate without you even realising it.

But maybe it's just a natural thing- the early bird catches the worm. Or like how players in new industries earn the most since there are fewer competitors. The first day of a lucky draw could probably always be the best day.

*Speaking of lucky draws, I remember winning a few myself. The very first one was at the bookstore Popular, which got me a sudoku puzzle book. The next few were more of contests rather than lucky draws. But because there were so few people entering the competitions, I got the prizes even though my competition pieces weren't all that great. Ahaha..*

Of course in life there will be the greedy people as well. Those who already got a prize but still wanted more. What's worse is that they got other people to do their dirty work. And they freakin' got what they wanted. Luckily my colleague shared my sentiment so I didn't feel that annoyed by it. But I gave all those people my black face haha. I definitely had to make them at least work a bit for it, right? Anyway that greedy guy was Malay, so it instantly erased the stereotype I had about Malays being relatively more content with what they have. Shame on you as a person!

Hardships lead to friendships though. Even though this was one of the toughest jobs I'd ever done, because it was 4 consecutive days of standing for 10 hours straight and we were only earning 8/h, it was still one of the most fun experiences I'd had. It was a lucky thing that I had such a fun and chatty colleague to work with, and she even said she felt sad that the job was ending since it meant we weren't going to meet again (we're two people who don't meet friends). And I gave her a hug that marked the end of this brief chapter :)
