Shopback is pretty awesome

Image
Somehow October is a super busy month! Suddenly there are so many talks coming up, it's as if everyone is trying to earn as much as they can before the year ends. Which is a good thing as well because it means MORE promotions! 😀 Recently I feel that shopback has a lot of good promotions. You can buy vouchers (eg grabcar vouchers and fairprice on vouchers) and get up to 14% cashback if you pay using citibank credit card. I've already bought more than $50 bucks worth of vouchers (the bulk is grab car since I take it quite often). They have many other vouchers including food panda, grab mart etc. And they give you even more cashback if you hit the minimum spending in the challenge category.  If you click on the figure beside the search bar, then scroll down, you will be able to see Deal Purchase and Challenges.  Now go spend money😂 I think the deals are pretty dope man. Especially cuz they count the deals and offers you bought before entering the challenge.  Also Grab has ...

Upset and Ranty

Disclaimer: I do not need any help or comfort, I'm just here to rant and get the negativity out of my system. Usually I don't write much when I'm happy so whenever I write, it's either I'm sad, nervous or pissed about something. So it seems like I'm always gloomy or pissed, but no I'm not. Life is pretty great overall. But everyone has their ups and downs and it just so happens I write my down times in order to feel better. Because when the events are trapped in my head it just seems worse than it really is. So writing makes things seem less bad, and that's how I cope. Also I don't like to take ppl's advice for my personal things, because there are always parts that people don't know and it makes them biased.  So I'm sitting at an empty coffee shop writing this because I ran out of data and somehow this place has WiFi. Why am I here? Because I can't stand being at home with someone who is so negative and not understanding. Why is it w...

Card hacks gone wrong

I'm making a mountain out of a molehill but I really do get pissed off by card exclusions! And hence the overexxaggerated post title.  I've been using credit cards, Youtrip and grabpay card for quite awhile, mostly credit cards. But my grab platinum account is going to be downgraded at the end of this year if I don't chalk up enough points, so I was finding ways to hit the point requirements. Saw on hardware zone that I could use my grabpay card on public transport, so that was what I did. But lo and behold, bus and mrt are excluded from earning points! So sad... But at least I know now, so I would like to share the other exclusions here as well: 1. Paypal (yep I wanted to link my grabpay card to PayPal too; since there r merchants that accept PayPal; but apparently it's excluded...There is a difference between topping up and paying to merchant via PayPal, but on Grab's website it doesn't differentiate, so I didn't want to take the risk.)  2. Ez-link transac...

Ignorance is bliss

I used to work at a specialist clinic as a clinic assistant. Boss is great. Colleagues are great. It's a really awesome, almost stress free environment to work at. I have nothing personal against them, but I always wonder, because of my knowledge in TCM, diet and natural health, how do doctors actually overcome their conscience when they prescribe drugs such as steroids. You may be thinking that I don't make any sense at all. You may be thinking, being a doctor is one of the best professions in the world! They save people and earn good bucks at the same time!  There has been so much evidence of how diet can be used to cure diseases ranging from autoimmune (eg. eczema, psoriasis, lupus etc) to lifestyle diseases such as diabetes and high cholesterol, and yet when patients ask the doctor if there is anything that they should avoid, and the doctor says nope. It's like the very thing that's causing harm to the body is already known, and yet because there are steroids (and o...

Why I didn’t get life insurance

Another thing we do when we start earning an income is to get insurance. There are many different types of insurance, but here I am only stating the reasons why I finally decided against getting a life insurance. 1. My biggest recurring expense is covered by another insurance, which I sort of forgot about at first when I considered getting life insurance to protect my income. That expense is my HDB mortgage, which is covered by HPS (home protection scheme). 2. My other expenditure is <1k, which my hubby is able to achieve even if he were to work part-time. Financial planners use the 10 years x your income to calculate your adequate coverage, but personally I don’t feel I need to protect my full income, just my expenditure should be sufficient. And for now that expenditure can be covered without insurance. One important thing my financial planner raised was that when we fall ill, our partner would have to spend a lot of time taking care of us and would not be able to work full time. ...

Which flat rate cash back card should you get?

I got credit cards once my salary allowed me to (which I don’t recommend because you sort of miss out on the first-timer promos if you have nothing much to spend on), so I’m here to share some experience. I did my fair share of research using finance websites such as moneysmart, singsaver etc, and this is my very own simplified version; finance websites are very complete and thorough, but sometimes because they compare just too many cards, it gets a bit difficult to finally make the decision...(But I do recommend you read them too because they are still really useful.) So here comes the disclaimer: I am NOT a financial advisor. I just want to share my experience and help others avoid the mistakes I did. Actually the aim is to get EVERY card that suits your lifestyle, not just one or two. But when you get those cards, try to get the welcome gifts as well. Because once you sign up for one bank’s card, you won’t be able to get the welcome gift for a different card from the same bank. Some...

Renewing my hubby's LTVP

Getting our LTVP was pretty stress free, everything went smoothly, maybe except for the medical cert because the doctor's stamp was in hindi and not that clear, and the doctor's handwriting was as usual, atrocious. But ICA handled it pretty well anyway and we got the LTVP. Slightly more than half a year passes and I applied for the UOB One credit card and a supp card for my hubby. (Because there were cashback promos!) But because there were less than 6 months left on my hubby's LTVP, UOB didn't want to give us the supp card. (Tsk UOB.) And they specially called me to explain. AND they were so *helpful* to tell me that we can apply for the LTVP earlier because they will just add the remaining duration to the new card. Thanks but no thanks, because this info was wrong. (Double tsk UOB.) The remaining duration DOES NOT get added to the new card. So even though our first card expires in Sept 2020, our new card expires in June 2021 because we made our appointment in June 2...
