Diversity

Everyone comes from different family backgrounds. In my class there are PRC scholars and Indonesian scholars besides our Singaporeans. Diversity results in different values. The Chinese especially emphasize on respect. I'm not so sure about Indonesians, Vietnamese. Singaporeans, on the other hand, are of mixed people. Thus different people of Singapore have different values so sometimes it's really hard to know what other ppl with diff family background are thinking. Actually it's more of understanding how they think. There's a place in the world where the people, the youngest being 5/6, slash themselves for their religion. When we see these occurrences shown on tv, most people won't be able to accept it. Like how on earth do they let themselves do that? how on earth can they tolerate the pain? Actually it's all in the mind. The values and all. We can't really blame them but it is polite for one another to respect one another's way of life. An example can be people of other religion/no religion not eating pork in front of Muslims. Thus sometimes when we think a certain person doesn't really deserves respect, just be polite and give the person a little respect. It doesn't make us more inferior or the person more superior. It's just the value that we're respecting and I think it's polite to do so.
